LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a client to hire a Payroll Specialist for a contract opportunity in San Leandro, California. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for managing and processing payroll for a diverse workforce, ensuring accuracy and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of payroll systems, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Processing: Accurately process payroll for all employees, ensuring that all wages, benefits, deductions, and taxes are calculated correctly and on time.
Tax Compliance: Stay up-to-date with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, ensuring all taxes (including withholdings, FICA, and unemployment) are correctly calculated and submitted.
Record Maintenance: Maintain up-to-date and accurate employee records, including payroll changes (e.g., salary adjustments, deductions, direct deposit information).
Reporting: Generate and review payroll reports, including earnings statements, tax filings, and compliance reports for both internal and external stakeholders.
Timekeeping: Oversee timekeeping system, ensuring all timecards and attendance records are accurate, and resolve any discrepancies.
Employee Inquiries: Serve as the point of contact for payroll-related inquiries, providing timely responses to employee concerns regarding pay, benefits, deductions, and leave balances.
Year-End Processing: Assist with year-end payroll processing, including W-2 preparation and any other necessary documentation.
Audit and Compliance: Assist with payroll audits and ensure compliance with all relevant laws, policies, and best practices.
System Updates: Stay informed of updates to payroll software and assist in system improvements or transitions as needed.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. A degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is a plus.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll processing, preferably in a fast-paced or multi-state environment.
Knowledge:
Strong understanding of payroll procedures, wage laws, and tax regulations.
Experience with payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paychex, or similar systems).
Knowledge of California labor laws and state-specific payroll requirements is essential.
Skills:
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification: CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification preferred.
Experience: Experience with multi-state payroll processing is highly desirable.
Work Environment:
Full-time, on-site position based in San Leandro, California.
Standard office hours with occasional overtime as needed during payroll cycles or year-end processing.
